Unfold is a powerful macOS Quick Look extension that allows you to preview folders and over 140 file formats, including source code, Markdown, comics, compressed files, e-books, and web archives, without opening dedicated applications. All content is processed locally on your Mac, and files are not uploaded.

• Source Code and Configuration Files: View Swift, Python, JavaScript, Java, Kotlin, C, C++, C#, Rust, Go, Ruby, PHP, Shell, SQL, CSS, YAML, XML, TOML, plist, and many other development files with syntax highlighting. Unfold also recognizes special files like Makefile, Dockerfile, CMakeLists.txt, .gitignore, and .env.
• JSON and Structured Data: Browse JSON, JSONC, JSON5, JSONL, and Canvas files with syntax highlighting, line numbers, and collapsible objects and arrays. .tab and .tsv data is displayed in a clear, readable table format.
• MARKDOWN, MERMAID, and JUPYTER: Display Markdown as formatted documents with titles, tables, code blocks, and easily navigable directories. Enable hot-reloading to automatically update previews when source files change. Mermaid files are rendered as scalable charts. You can also preview formatted Markdown, syntax-highlighted code, mathematical formulas, and saved outputs in Jupyter Notebooks.
• Covers and Text: Read CBZ and CBR comic files directly in Quick Look. Scroll through pages in continuous mode and navigate quickly using thumbnails.
• File Folders: Preview folders in “Finder” using standard, list, or grid layouts. View thumbnail images and file information, expand subfolders, adjust scan depth, and choose to show hidden items.
• Compressed Files: Browse ZIP, RAR, 7Z, TAR, and other compressed file formats without needing to decompress them. View nested folders, expand directory contents, and display file names and sizes in a clear hierarchical view.
• Web Archives: Open MHT and MHTML web archives in Quick Look as complete web pages. All content is processed locally and remote content loading, external page navigation, and JavaScript execution are disabled.
• LATEX and BIBTEX: Display TeX, LaTeX, and LTX documents as formatted content with mathematical formulas, and switch to a syntax-highlighted source code view. BibTeX files can be displayed as formatted reference lists using APA, MLA, Chicago, or IEEE styles.
• E-Books: Open EPUB and FB2 e-books to view covers and formatted text. Use the table of contents, adjustable font size, and automatic, dark, light, and brown themes. Resume reading from the last position when reopening the e-book.
• Subtitles and Text: View subtitle time information and style highlights for SRT files, and support VTT and ASS subtitle files. Preview log files, NFO files, Fountain scripts, plain text, files without extensions, and unrecognized text formats.
• MAC APP Packages: View icons, names, versions, package identifiers, supported architectures, minimum macOS versions, sizes, signers, and App Sandbox and Hardened Runtime statuses for .app files using Quick Look.

Unfold is installed and enabled in “System Preferences” > “General” > “Login Items and Extensions” > “Quick Look”. Use Quick Look in “Finder” to preview supported files or folders by pressing the spacebar.
