I. Software Overview and Core Interface Details
ArcSoft Portrait+ is a professional software dedicated to intelligent beautification and retouching of portrait photos. Utilizing advanced face detection and recognition technology, it can automatically locate facial features and provides a series of efficient and detailed adjustment tools, greatly simplifying the post-processing workflow for commercial portraits, wedding photography, and personal photos.
1.1 Core Workspace Layout
After launching the software, the main interface is primarily divided into the following areas:
- Top Menu Bar: Contains all file operations, editing commands, and settings options.
- Left Tool Panel: Vertically arranged core tool icons, such as “Open,” “Save,” “Face Tools,” “Brush,” etc.
- Central Viewing Area: Displays the image currently being edited, allowing zooming (
⌘+/⌘-) and dragging to view. - Right Adjustment Panel: The core area of the software where all parameter adjustments are made. The panel dynamically switches content based on the selected mode.
- Bottom Status Bar: Displays current image information, operation prompts, and processing progress.
The right adjustment panel mainly contains two working modes:
- “Auto” Mode: The software provides a one-click beautification solution, and users can control the beautification intensity via a slider.
- “Advanced” Mode: Provides detailed adjustments by category, including “Skin Retouching,” “Face Reshaping,” “Facial Feature Enhancement,” “Makeup,” and other major categories, each containing multiple sub-parameters.
II. Complete Workflow: From Import to Export
Step 1: Create/Open a Project
Method 1: Via the Menu Click File > Open... or use the shortcut ⌘O.
Method 2: Via the Toolbar Directly click the “Open” folder icon at the top of the left toolbar.
Method 3: Drag and Drop Drag one or more image files directly from Finder into the central viewing area of the software.
Note: The software supports batch processing. After opening multiple photos at once, they will appear as thumbnails on the left side or at the bottom, and you can process them one by one or all together.
Step 2: Face Detection and Selection
After importing a photo, the software will automatically detect all faces in the image and mark them with green boxes.
- If there are multiple faces in the photo, you need to click to select the target face you want to edit in the “Face List” on the left side.
- You can manually adjust the detection box: move the mouse to the edge of the detection box and drag the control points to more precisely match the facial contours.
Step 3: Portrait Retouching (Core Step)
In the right panel, select “Auto” or “Advanced” mode for adjustments.
“Auto” Mode for Quick Processing:
- Make sure “Auto” is selected at the top of the right panel.
- Drag the main “Beauty” slider to adjust the overall beautification intensity. The software will intelligently apply effects such as skin smoothing, skin brightening, and blemish removal.
“Advanced” Mode for Fine-Tuning:
- Switch to “Advanced” mode.
- Skin Treatment: Expand this option to adjust parameters such as “Smooth Skin,” “Skin Tone,” “Whitening,” and “Remove Shine” individually. Typically, use “Smooth Skin” first to even out the skin texture, then use “Whitening” to brighten dull areas.
- Facial Reshaping: You can make local micro-adjustments such as “Slim Face,” “Chin,” “Forehead,” “Big Eyes,” and “Slim Nose.” After clicking a parameter name, control points will appear on the corresponding part of the photo; drag them for more personalized reshaping.
- Facial Feature Enhancement: Adjust the shape and size of the eyebrows, eyes, and mouth.
- Makeup: Add digital makeup to the subject, such as “Lipstick,” “Blush,” “Eyeshadow,” and “Eyelashes.” Select a style and adjust the color and intensity.
All parameters are adjusted by dragging the sliders. Check the checkbox before a parameter to compare the difference before and after the effect is applied.
Step 4: Local Retouching and Restoration
If you need more precise control, use the retouching tools in the left toolbar:
- Brush Tool: Used to apply effects locally. After enabling the “Brush” option in the right panel, you can paint on the image, and the effect will only apply to the painted area.
- Eraser Tool: Erases areas where the effect has been over-applied.
- Restore Brush: Used to restore the image to its original state, removing all beautification effects from a specific area.
You can adjust the brush size, hardness, and opacity via the top options bar.
Step 5: Save and Export the Final Work
Once processing is complete, proceed to output.
Method 1: Save the Project File Click File > Save (⌘S) or Save As... (⇧⌘S) to save as a Portrait+ project file (.prj) for future editing.
Method 2: Export the Final Image
- Click
File > Exportor the “Save” icon (disk shape) in the left toolbar. - In the dialog box that appears, set the export format (e.g., JPEG, PNG, TIFF), quality, output dimensions, and destination folder.
- If you have processed multiple photos, you can check “Batch export all images”.
- Click the “Export” button to finish.
III. Advanced Tips for Common Features
- Natural retouching techniques: In “Skin Retouching” under the “Advanced” mode, do not pull the “Retouch” intensity too high. It is recommended to use it together with “Skin Tone” and “Brightening”, and appropriately use “Soft” parameters to avoid a plastic look.
- Preserve skin texture: Use the “Brush Tool” to apply retouching effects locally, avoiding the eyebrows, eyelashes, lip contours, and highlighted texture areas of the skin to preserve a realistic texture.
- Natural facial reshaping: When making adjustments such as “Face Slimming” and “Big Eyes”, follow the principle of “small amounts, multiple times”. It is recommended to fine-tune each parameter within a range of +10 to -10 for more natural changes.
- Batch sync settings: When shooting a group of portraits (with the same lighting and makeup), after processing the first photo, you can copy the current parameter settings in the “Face List” area or via menu commands and paste them onto other photos, then fine-tune them, greatly improving efficiency.
- Compare and check: During processing, you can press
⌘B(Before/After) at any time to quickly switch between the original image and the edited image, or use the split-screen comparison view (found in the “View” menu).
IV. Common Issues and Solutions
| Symptom | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| The software cannot detect a face | 1. The face angle is too large (e.g., a profile angle exceeding 90 degrees). 2. The face is too small or too large in the frame. 3. The lighting is too dark or there are strong obstructions on the face. |
1. Make sure the face is facing the camera directly or at a slight angle. 2. Ensure the face is at an appropriate proportion within the frame. 3. Try adjusting the image brightness or using the “Manual Positioning” feature (if the software provides one). |
| The skin looks “fake” or blurry after processing | The “skin smoothing” or “softening” parameter intensity is too high. | Reduce the “skin smoothing” intensity and try increasing the “clarity” or “skin detail” parameters (if available), or use the brush tool for local retouching. |
| Distortion abnormalities in areas such as the eyes or mouth | The facial detection box is inaccurate, or parameters such as “big eyes” or “smile” have been adjusted too much. | 1. Manually adjust the initial face detection box so that it better fits the facial features. 2. Significantly dial back the relevant distortion parameters and make fine adjustments. |
| Processing speed is slow | 1. Processing multiple high-resolution images at the same time. 2. Insufficient Mac system resources. |
1. Try processing one image at a time, or lower the preview resolution first (adjust it in “View”). 2. Close other large applications to free up memory. |
| The Save/Export option is grayed out and unavailable | No valid operation has been performed, or no exportable face target has been selected. | Make at least one parameter change to the image, or make sure the target face has been selected in a group photo. |
