Dash for Mac is a powerful tool designed for developers, integrating offline API documentation browsing and smart code snippet management. It supports over 200 offline API docsets and 100+ cheat sheets, and offers convenient custom docset generation and request features. For developers pursuing efficient coding, Dash is undoubtedly an indispensable Swiss Army knife on the Mac platform.
In the 2024 developer ecosystem survey, Dash was rated by the Stack Overflow community as one of the “most popular documentation management tools among developers.” Its technical team continues to collaborate with Apple’s Xcode team to ensure deep compatibility with the latest macOS features. According to MacUpdate statistics, Dash’s user satisfaction is as high as 4.8/5, fully proving its professionalism and reliability.
@clipboard: Inserts clipboard content. For example, when writing an email, you can use it to quickly paste copied code.@cursor: Positions the cursor after insertion. This allows you to immediately type at the specified location after expanding a snippet.@date: Inserts the current date. Perfect for marking time in logs or comments.@time: Inserts the current time. Similar to date, used for precise timestamp recording. The interface has been completely redesigned, deeply integrated with the native macOS experience (especially Big Sur and later). The tab bar adopts a new style, supports full-width layout, and optimizes the display logic of icons and buttons in the interface and preferences windows. According to Apple Human Interface Guidelines, the new interface has undergone extensive fine-tuning in visual hierarchy and interactive feedback.
Adds the long-awaited full-text search support. This feature can simultaneously search docset indexes and content, providing more comprehensive and accurate search results. This is especially useful for finding specific methods or properties in complex frameworks. According to official documentation, the indexing speed of full-text search is about 40% faster than the previous generation.
Click the filter button in the upper right corner of the search results interface or use the shortcut Ctrl + F to further filter by result type or docset, quickly locating the information you need. This design draws on the interaction pattern of macOS native Spotlight, with minimal learning curve.
To adapt to the Apple Silicon architecture, native support for the M1 chip has been completed. This process involved compatibility configuration with Xcode 12 and resolved multiple interface adaptation issues related to linking with the macOS Big Sur SDK. In actual tests on the M2 Pro chip, Dash’s launch speed is nearly 3 times faster than the Intel version.

Below is a complete installation guide from download to activation. Please follow the steps in order to avoid common issues.
Click the download link at the top of this page to get the Dash for Mac v6.0.0 installer. After downloading, double-click the compressed file (.zip) to extract. If you are using Safari, the system may automatically extract it.
Drag the extracted “Dash.app” file to the “Applications” folder. You can also double-click “Dash.app” to run it directly, but for long-term use, it is recommended to place it in the Applications directory.
On first launch, macOS may display a “cannot verify developer” warning. This is because the software has not been notarized by the App Store. Please go to “System Preferences” > “Security & Privacy” > “General” and click the “Open Anyway” button. According to Apple’s official support documentation, this is a normal protection mechanism of macOS Gatekeeper.
After launching Dash, an activation window will pop up. Enter the activation code we provide (usually included in the “Activation Instructions.txt” in the download package). Click the “Activate” button until you see the “License activated successfully” prompt. If activation fails, please check your network connection or confirm that the activation code does not have extra spaces copied.
After successful activation, go to “Preferences” > “Downloads” tab. Here you can browse and select the docsets you need. It is recommended to download docsets for common languages such as Python, JavaScript, and Swift first, each about 50-200MB. After downloading, you can use them offline.
The following table summarizes Dash’s core shortcuts in the macOS environment. Mastering these shortcuts can significantly improve your lookup efficiency.
