Below are the installation steps for Storyist 4 for Mac v4.2.4 activated version. Please follow strictly in order:
Click the download link to get the compressed package (.dmg file). Double-click the .dmg file, and the system will automatically mount and pop up the installation window. If you encounter a “file is damaged” prompt, go to System Preferences – Security & Privacy – General and select “Open Anyway”.
Drag the Storyist icon on the left to the “Applications” folder on the right. During this process, the system may ask for an administrator password. Please wait patiently for the progress bar to complete.
Open “Launchpad”, find the Storyist icon and click it. On first launch, macOS may pop up a security verification prompt; click “Open”. If the software prompts for activation, use the activation code or keygen included in the compressed package.
After entering the software, click “Storyist” -> “Register” in the menu bar. Enter the provided activation information (usually including a serial number or email). Click the “Activate” button and wait for server verification. A confirmation popup will appear upon success.
After activation, it is recommended to restart the software. You can adjust interface language (if supported), fonts, auto-save interval, and other parameters in “Preferences” according to your preferences. Installation is now complete.
We have compiled the following Q&A for high-frequency issues reported by users:
Fully supported. Storyist’s word processing engine has good support for CJK characters. You can directly input Chinese in the software and use the system’s built-in input method. Some templates may be in English, but you can create your own Chinese templates.
Please check your network connection first. If it says “invalid activation code”, the code may have been used. It is recommended to re-download the compressed package and check for a separate activation instruction file. If the issue persists, please leave a message via the contact information at the bottom of the page, and we will update available resources as soon as possible.
Storyist v4.2.4 has been optimized for Apple Silicon (M1/M2). It also runs perfectly in Rosetta 2 mode. In actual tests, opening large projects (e.g., a 300,000-word novel) responds quickly without noticeable lag.
Use the “File” -> “Import” function directly and select “Word Document”. Storyist supports importing .docx and .doc formats. Formatting may change slightly after import; it is recommended to use the built-in style sheets to re-format.
Storyist provides auto-save and version history features. By default, it auto-saves every 5 minutes. Additionally, you can adjust the save interval in Preferences. It is recommended to use iCloud or Time Machine for extra backups.
Click “File” -> “Export” and select “PDF” or “ePub”. For Kindle format, select “Amazon Kindle format”. Before exporting, it is recommended to use the built-in book editor for final layout preview.
Storyist itself does not support real-time online collaboration. However, you can export to FDX or RTF format to exchange files with team members using Final Draft or Scrivener. The team-shared template feature also helps maintain stylistic consistency.
When you reopen the software, Storyist will automatically prompt to recover unsaved documents. You can also manually go to the path “~/Library/Application Support/Storyist/Autosave” to find backup files.
The trial version usually has a 15-day limit and may not be able to export some formats. The activated version has no time limit and unlocks all features, including advanced publishing options and the template system.
Drag Storyist from Applications to the Trash. It is also recommended to delete the ~/Library/Preferences/com.storyist.plist configuration file to avoid remnants.
