DesiGN for Keynote is a powerful collection of templates designed specifically for Apple Keynote. It is not a standalone software, but rather a library containing over 700 high-quality, professionally designed Keynote templates. Each template is not just a background, but a complete framework for a presentation, including up to 25 different main slide layouts, covering topics such as business, fashion, travel, portfolio, and many others, with standard (4:3) and widescreen (16:9) sizes, to help users quickly create visually stunning presentations, focusing on content creation.

One, Core Interface and Workspace Overview

To efficiently use these templates, understanding the Keynote workspace is crucial.

1.1 Keynote Main Workspace

  • Navigator: Located on the left, displaying all slides in thumbnail format. You can drag and reorder, copy, or delete slides here.
  • Canvas/Slide Editing Area: The largest area in the center, used for directly editing the content of the currently selected slide, such as text, images, shapes.
  • Format Panel: Located on the right. This area changes dynamically based on the selected object (text, shape, image, slide itself). Used for adjusting styles, layouts, animations, etc.
  • Animation Effects Panel: Click the animation effects button in the toolbar to open, located on the right. Used to add build (appear) and disappear animations to objects or slides.
  • Slide Setup Panel: Click the slide button in the toolbar to open, located on the right. Used to set slide dimensions (such as 4:3 or 16:9) and global attributes like background.

1.2 Integration of DesiGN Templates

After installation, DesiGN templates seamlessly integrate into the template selector in Keynote.

  1. Launch the Keynote application.
  2. In the initial “theme selector” window, scroll to the bottom to find the “DesiGN” or similar-named template category.
  3. Click on this category to browse all available DesiGN templates and filter by theme (such as business, fashion) and size.

Two, The Complete Operation Flow from Creation to Export

2.1 First Step: Create a New Project (Select a Template)

Operation:

  1. Open the Keynote application.
  2. If you have an existing presentation open, choose “File” > “New” (shortcut Command + N) from the menu bar.
  3. In the pop-up theme selector window, scroll down to the “DesiGN” section.
  4. Browse the templates or use the top filter to select by theme and size.
  5. Select the desired template thumbnail and click the “Create” button in the bottom right corner.
Note: After selecting a template, a new presentation with multiple preset layouts (main slides) is created. The first slide in the left navigator is usually the cover slide.

2.2 Second Step: Edit Slide Content

Operation:

  1. Add a new slide: Click the + button in the toolbar or use the shortcut Command + Shift + N. In the pop-up main slide selector, choose a layout that matches the template style.
  2. Replace placeholder text: Click on the text placeholder (usually with a double-click to edit) on the canvas and input your text directly. The format (font, color, size) is preset by the template, and you can further adjust it in the right format panel under the “Text” tab.
  3. Replace placeholder images: Click on the image placeholder (usually with an icon) on the canvas, and in the right format panel under the “Image” tab, click the “Replace” button to select a new image from your Mac. The new image will automatically adapt to the placeholder’s size and style (such as mask, border).
  4. Modify global styles using master slides: To uniformly modify the style of a certain element across all slides (such as the position of the company logo, title font), modify the “master slide”.
    • From the menu bar, choose “Show” > “Show Master Slide” (or use the view button).
    • Select the master slide you are using in the left master slide list. This modification will apply to all slides using this layout.

2.3 Third Step: Add Animations and Transition Effects

Operation:

  1. Object Animations (Build): Select an object on the canvas (such as a text box, image), click the animation effects button in the toolbar. Click “Add Effect” from the list to choose an animation (such as “Fade In”, “Fly In”). Set the animation’s “Start” mode (such as “On Click”) and “Duration” in the right panel.
  2. Slide Transitions: In the left navigator, select a slide, click the animation effects button, and then click the “Add Effect” (located in the “Slide Transition” area) to choose a transition effect (such as “Magic Move”, “Gradient”). Adjust the parameters in the right panel.
  3. Magic Move: This is Keynote’s signature feature, creating smooth animations between consecutive slides for similar objects. Ensure that both slides have the same named objects (this can be viewed and modified in the format panel under the “Arrange” tab).

2.4 Fourth Step: Preview and Export

Operation:

  1. Preview: Click the play button (or use the shortcut Option + Command + P) to start a full-screen preview from the current slide. Press Esc to exit.
  2. Export: Click the Export button in the toolbar to export the presentation in the desired format (such as PDF, PowerPoint).
  • Export: Select from the menu bar “File” > “Export to”.
    • PDF: For printing or non-editable sharing.
    • PowerPoint: For editing or playback on Windows, some advanced animations and fonts may not convert perfectly.
    • Video: Export as a video file, containing all animations and transitions, and record narration.
    • Image: Export each slide as an image.
    • HTML: Generate a version that can be viewed in a web browser.
  • Choose a format, adjust settings as needed (such as video resolution, PDF quality), then click “Next”, select the save location, and click “Export”.
  • Three, Advanced Techniques for Common Features

    1. Quick Style Brush: Select an object with a set style (such as a red title), double-click the Format Brush icon in the toolbar (or use Option + Command + C to copy the style), then click another object (use Option + Command + V to paste the style) to quickly unify the appearance.
    2. Alignment and Distribution: Hold the Shift key to select multiple objects, then use the “Align” and “Distribute” tools in the right format panel to quickly arrange the objects.
    3. Layer Management: In the “Arrange” tab, use “Bring Forward/Bring Backward” or directly input “Position” values to precisely control the stacking order of objects.
    4. Grouping and Locking: Select multiple objects, right-click to choose “Group” (Option + Command + G) for overall movement. Right-click to choose “Lock” to prevent accidental operations.
    5. Using Layouts Across Templates: You can copy a slide from one DesiGN template (Command + C) and paste it into another presentation using a different DesiGN template (Command + V). Keynote will ask if you want to retain the original theme style; choose “Retain Style” to maintain its original design.

    Four, Common Issues and Solutions

    Issue Reason Solution
Unable to find a DesiGN template The template file may not be correctly installed or moved. Ensure the template file (`.kth` file) is placed in the “~/Library/Application Support/iWork/Keynote/Templates/” folder. Restart Keynote.
Images become deformed or blurry after replacement The original image resolution is too low, or the “Replace” function was not used during replacement. 1. Use high-resolution images.
    2. Click the image placeholder, then use the “Replace” function in the right panel to ensure the image is correctly replaced, rather than simply dragging the image over.
Fonts display incorrectly The template uses fonts that are not available on your system. Keynote will prompt for missing fonts and attempt to replace them. You can manually change the font of selected text to an available font in the “Format” > “Text” panel, or install the missing font file.
After modifying the master, some slides do not update Those slides may be using a different master layout, or have been individually formatted with a “Cover Master”. 1. Ensure the master layout applied to the slide is correct.
    2. Select the object that did not update, then check the right format panel for any manually applied styles. Try clicking “Update” to match the master.
After exporting to PowerPoint, styles become disorganized Keynote and PowerPoint may differ in their rendering engines and feature support. 1. Before exporting, use basic animations and common fonts (such as Microsoft YaHei, Arial).
    2. After exporting, fine-tune the styles in PowerPoint.
