One – Core Interface and Work Area Details

Upon launching Dynaper, you will see the following core work area:

  1. Main Image List/TableView: Located in the center of the window, displaying all added images in a table format. The columns include: image thumbnail, file name, assigned display time (or solar height/azimuth), and static image designated as either light or dark appearance.
  2. Toolbar: Located at the top of the window, containing main operation buttons such as “Add Image”, “Sun Guide”, and “Export HEIC” etc.
  3. Side Inspector: Located on the right side of the window. When an image is selected in the list, this area displays detailed information about the selected image and allows manual modification of its display time, solar data, or appearance association.

Two – Complete Operation Process: From Creation to Export

1. Create a New Project and Add Images

Method One: Drag and Drop Addition

Drag and drop one or more images directly from the Finder to the image list area of the Dynaper main window.

Method Two: Add Images via Menu/Button

Click the “+” button in the toolbar, or use the menu bar File -> Add Image... (shortcut Cmd + O), then choose the images in the pop-up window.

Tips: Utilize Automatic Time Detection

Dynaper automatically scans the file names of the images (such as Sunrise_08_30.jpg) or EXIF metadata for timestamps and automatically sets them as display times. Ensure the file name ends with the HH_mm (24-hour format) to maximize the use of this feature.

2. Adjust Image Display Times or Solar Data

Based on the type of wallpaper you want to create, there are two core modes:

A. Time Dynamic Wallpapers

Operation Steps:

  1. Select the image in the main image list that needs to be adjusted.
  2. Adjust the “time” field in the right-side inspector by directly inputting or using up/down arrows.
  3. Alternatively, double-click the “time” cell for quick editing.

Shortcut: After selecting an image, press Tab to quickly jump to the time field for editing.

B. Solar Dynamic Wallpapers (More Complex, Simulating Real Sunlight Changes)

Operation Steps:

  1. Click the “Sun Guide” button in the toolbar.
  2. Input the location (city name or latitude/longitude) and date in the guide window.
  3. The guide calculates the solar height angle and azimuth data for that location on the given date.
  4. Apply these solar data to the images you have added. Typically, multiple images at different time points are needed to match different solar positions.

3. Set Light/Dark (Light/ Dark) Appearance Static Images

Operation Steps:

  1. Right-click (or double-tap with a touchpad) on a selected image in the image list.
  2. Select either Set as Light Appearance Image or Set as Dark Appearance Image in the context menu.
  3. The selected image will be marked with a special icon in the list. This feature allows the creation of wallpapers that automatically switch between light and dark appearance modes based on macOS dark mode.

4. Export the Final HEIC Wallpaper File

Operation Steps:

  1. Ensure all image times and attributes are set correctly, then click the toolbar’s “Export HEIC” button, or choose File -> Export HEIC... (shortcut Cmd + E).
  2. In the save dialog, choose the save location and name the file.
  3. In the export options, you can choose whether to include static images (for light/dark appearance) and enable export compression in the “Preferences” to reduce file size beforehand.
  4. Click “Save”, and Dynaper will package all images and metadata into a .heic file.

5. Apply the Wallpaper to macOS

Open System Settings > Wallpaper, drag the exported .heic file into the settings window, or choose “Add Photo” to select the file, and set it as the dynamic desktop wallpaper.

Three – Advanced Function Usage Tips

  1. Bulk Time Modification: Hold Cmd key to select multiple images, then modify times in the right-side inspector to apply to all selected images at once.
  2. Use “Time Assistant” for Standardizing Times: Open the “Time Assistant” tool in the bottom toolbar, input any time format, and convert it to the standardized format used by Dynaper for manual input.
  3. Create Pure Time/Solar Displacement Text: Drag images from the image list to the Finder desktop, Dynaper will not move the original images but generate a text file containing all time/solar data. This file can be used for advanced manual editing or backup configurations.
  • Check HEIC metadata: Use the “HEIC Metadata” tool to open any HEIC dynamic wallpaper file and view detailed information such as timestamps and solar data, which is helpful for learning and debugging.
  • Wide color gamut support: For optimal visual effects, it is recommended to add images with P3 color gamut descriptions. Dynaper will automatically handle color spaces, presenting more vivid colors on supported devices.

    • Four, Common Issues and Solutions

    Issue Reason Solution
    Dynamic wallpapers in System Settings do not change 1. All images are set to the same time.
    2. The “Dynamic Desktop” option is not enabled.    		 1. Ensure that the timestamps in the image list are spread across different times of the day.
    2. In macOS “System Settings-Wall Wallpaper”, click the menu below the wallpaper and ensure that the “Dynamic” version is selected, not the “Static” version.
    Solar dynamic wallpapers change inaccurately 1. Incorrect location or date settings.
    2. The image does not match the corresponding solar data.    		 1. Recheck the location and date in the “Sun Guide”.
    2. Ensure that the image content (such as shadows) matches the corresponding solar altitude/azimuth roughly.
    Dark mode wallpaper switching does not work 1. Incorrect selection of light/dark appearance on the image.
    2. macOS version is below Catalina.    		 1. Right-click the image to confirm that the appearance attributes are assigned.
    2. This feature requires macOS Catalina (10.15) or a higher version.
    Automatic time detection fails File name format does not match “HH_mm” suffix, and EXIF metadata is missing. Manually modify the file name, for example, change “MyPhoto.jpg” to “MyPhoto_14_20.jpg” to represent 2:20 PM, then re-drag into Dynaper.
