Magic Battery is a lightweight menu bar tool that displays real-time battery status for all Bluetooth-connected peripherals (mouse, keyboard, trackpad, headphones, etc.) as well as the Mac’s built-in battery. It not only shows percentages but also intelligently predicts when each device will run out and when it will be fully charged, giving you a clear overview of all your devices’ battery levels.
Features:
**1. Smart battery prediction, beyond percentages**
– Continuously tracks each device’s power consumption rate and learns its patterns
– Predicts specific depletion time—telling you “runs out on Thursday” or “runs out at 6 PM” instead of a cold “43%”
– Devices not connected for a long time are marked as such, rather than guessed
**2. Charging time estimation**
– When a device is charging, a lightning icon appears and estimates time to full charge
– Once fully charged, it automatically shows “Charged” instead of staying on “Charging”
**3. At-a-glance charging decision**
– A summary line at the top of the window gives a direct conclusion: “No charging needed” or “Magic Trackpad only 12% left, please charge”
– Conclusion first, detailed list follows, giving you the full picture in a second
**4. Broad device support**
*Input devices:*
– Apple Magic Mouse, Magic Mouse 2
– Apple Magic Trackpad 2, Apple Wireless Trackpad
– Apple Wireless Keyboard
– Logitech MX Anywhere series, Pebble mouse
– Logitech K series keyboards
*Headphones and earbuds:*
– AirPods / AirPods Pro / AirPods Max (including charging case, left and right earbud battery shown separately)
– Beats series (Solo 3, Studio 3, Beats X, etc., left and right shown separately)
– Bose headphones (battery read via Bluetooth)
– Sony headphones (battery read via Bluetooth)
*Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) devices:*
– Automatically identifies all devices that publish battery levels via Bluetooth LE Battery Service
– Also displays firmware version and serial number
*Mac built-in battery:*
– Shows current charge, health, cycle count, battery status, and remaining usage time
– When plugged in but not charging, clearly explains why—optimized charging, charge limit, or temperature protection
**5. Highly customizable menu bar**
– Each device can be shown separately or merged into one menu bar item
– Multiple display styles: compact progress bar, vertical bar, plain text, text + icon
– Supports color/monochrome display, customizable item spacing
– Can choose different menu bar views for each device
**6. Personalized device management**
– Hide devices you don’t want in the menu bar
– Customize device names, or show device type instead of name
– Main window supports search for quick device location
**7. Low battery alerts**
– Customizable low battery threshold (10%–30%)
– Sends notification when device battery falls below threshold
– Mac built-in battery is also monitored
**8. Unobtrusive**
– Supports menu bar-only operation (no Dock icon) or normal window mode
– Can be set to launch at login
– Automatically follows system light/dark appearance
– Main window remembers its last size and position
**9. Privacy first**
– All learning data and device information are stored locally
– No account registration, no data upload, no user tracking
– Developer promises not to collect any data
**10. Headphone support helper**
– Headphone battery reading is enabled by the free Batteries helper
– The app can automatically download, start, and stop the helper without manual configuration
What’s new in version 11.0.0:
– Added built-in help feature answering common questions about devices, menu bar, and settings.
– On first launch, Magic Battery now asks for your preferred menu bar style and whether to enable low battery alerts.
– When a device is not shown, Magic Battery now explains why it might not be listed.
– Fixed inaccurate “time to full charge” when a device is charging, no longer showing absurd dates months away.
– When updating the Batteries plugin, it now stops the running plugin first to ensure the update installs smoothly.
– Fixed an issue where the main window could be shrunk indefinitely until content completely disappeared.
– Fixed the contact form appearing twice in the Help menu.
– Now only supports Macs with Apple silicon. Macs with Intel processors can continue to install and use previous versions.
