The steps to install VMware Fusion Pro 11.5.0 are not complicated, but each step requires careful operation. We have compiled the complete process from download to first virtual machine startup.
First, download the installation package from the link provided on this page. The file size is about 500MB, please ensure network stability. After downloading, double-click the .dmg file to mount it.
In the mounted disk image, you will see an application icon named “VMware Fusion.app”. Drag the icon to the “Applications” folder, which is the standard installation method for macOS software.
Open the “Applications” folder and double-click “VMware Fusion.app” to start the installer. The system may prompt “whether to allow applications downloaded from the internet”, click “Open” to continue.
The installation wizard will ask you to enter your Mac administrator password to authorize installation. After entering the password, the installation process will complete automatically, usually taking only 1-2 minutes.
After installation, VMware Fusion will automatically start and prompt you to enter a license key. If you have a genuine key, enter it directly. If not, you can choose the “Try” option to get a 30-day full-featured trial period.
After starting VMware Fusion, click the “New” button on the main interface. You will see two options: “Install from disc or image” and “Import from existing virtual machine”.
Select “Install from disc or image”, then select the Windows or Linux system ISO image file you have prepared. Fusion will automatically detect the operating system type and recommend optimal settings.
Next, you need to configure virtual machine resources: allocate CPU cores, memory size, and disk space. For Windows 10, it is recommended to allocate at least 2 CPU cores and 4GB memory.
Finally, click “Finish”, and the virtual machine will automatically start and enter the system installation process. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the operating system installation.
After system installation is complete, be sure to install VMware Tools. This is a key component for improving virtual machine performance and experience. In the virtual machine menu bar, click “Virtual Machine” -> “Install VMware Tools”.
For Windows virtual machines, VMware Tools will run like a normal installer. For Linux virtual machines, it needs to be installed via command line. After installation, restart the virtual machine, and you will get better graphics performance, clipboard sharing, and file drag-and-drop functionality.
During the use of VMware Fusion, users may encounter some common problems. We have compiled 8 high-frequency questions and their answers to help you quickly troubleshoot.
Virtual machine lag is usually caused by insufficient resource allocation. Check your virtual machine settings to ensure sufficient memory and CPU cores are allocated. Also, ensure your Mac has at least 8GB of physical memory and close other resource-consuming applications.
Enable the shared folder feature. In virtual machine settings, find the “Sharing” option and add the Mac folders you want to share. After installing VMware Tools, these folders will automatically appear in the virtual machine.
Check the virtual machine’s network adapter settings. By default, Fusion uses NAT mode to share the host’s network connection. If you cannot access the internet, try switching to bridged mode, allowing the virtual machine to directly obtain a LAN IP address.
After installing VMware Tools, the virtual machine window can automatically adapt to the Mac window size. You can also manually adjust the resolution in the virtual machine operating system’s display settings. Fusion supports Retina display optimization, and the picture is very clear.
Of course. When the virtual machine is running, click the USB icon in the top menu bar and select the device you want to connect. Fusion supports USB 2.0 and 3.0 devices, including USB drives, printers, and external hard drives.
All virtual machine data is stored in the .vmwarevm package file. You can directly copy this file to an external hard drive or cloud storage for backup. Fusion also supports snapshot functionality, allowing quick restoration to previous states.
Some Mac shortcuts are intercepted by the host. You can adjust the “Keyboard and Mouse” options in Fusion’s preferences to pass specific shortcuts directly to the virtual machine. For example, map Command+C to Ctrl+C.
Move “VMware Fusion.app” from the “Applications” folder to the Trash. Then, delete the ~/Library/Preferences/VMware Fusion and ~/Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion folders to clear all configuration data.
When using VMware Fusion, mastering some shortcut keys can greatly improve operational efficiency. Below is a table of common shortcut keys related to virtual machine operations in the Mac environment.
| Shortcut Key Combination | Function Description | Applicable Scenario |
