Below is a complete installation step guide to help you quickly get started with SQLPro for MSSQL.
Before installation, it is recommended to confirm your Mac system version. SQLPro for MSSQL requires macOS 10.13 or later and at least 4GB of RAM.
You can click the Apple icon in the top-left corner of the screen and select “About This Mac” to check the system version. If the version is too low, you need to upgrade macOS first.
Step 1: Download the activated version installation package of SQLPro for MSSQL from the link provided on this page. The file is usually in .dmg format.
Step 2: After downloading, double-click the .dmg file, and an installation window will pop up. The window usually contains an application icon and an Applications folder shortcut.
Step 3: Drag the SQLPro for MSSQL icon directly into the Applications folder. This step completes the software copy installation.
Step 4: Open Launchpad or find SQLPro for MSSQL in the “Applications” folder and double-click to launch. On first launch, the system will prompt “from an unidentified developer,” which is a macOS security mechanism.
Step 5: Go to “System Preferences” -> “Security & Privacy” -> “General” and click the “Open Anyway” button to launch the software normally. If the system is updated later, this operation may need to be repeated.
After launching the software, you will see the connection configuration window. You need to fill in the server address, port number (default 1433), username, and password.
If connecting to a local SQL Server instance, the server address can be localhost or 127.0.0.1. If it is a cloud service (such as Azure SQL), fill in the corresponding connection string.
After filling in, click the “Test Connection” button to test connectivity. If everything is normal, click “Connect” to enter the main interface. If the test fails, please check network and firewall settings.
Based on user feedback, we have compiled the following 5-10 common questions and answers to help you quickly troubleshoot.
This situation is usually because macOS security policies block unsigned applications. You can first try right-clicking the application and selecting “Open.” If it still doesn’t work, run the command sudo spctl –master-disable in “Terminal” to temporarily disable Gatekeeper, but it is recommended to re-enable it after use.
This is mostly due to encryption protocol mismatch. In the connection settings of SQLPro for MSSQL, find the “Encrypt” option and set it to “Optional” or “False.” If the error persists, check the SQL Server certificate configuration.
SQLPro for MSSQL itself does not directly support importing/exporting .bak files, but you can achieve this by executing T-SQL commands. For example, use the RESTORE DATABASE command to restore a backup, or use the BACKUP DATABASE command to create a backup.
Currently, the main interface language of SQLPro for MSSQL is English, but it fully supports the display and input of Chinese content. You can normally write SQL statements containing Chinese comments or field names without garbled characters.
The activated version usually does not provide automatic updates. If you need new features, you can follow the official release of new versions and then download the latest activated version installation package from this site to reinstall. It is recommended to back up your connection configuration before installation.
This is usually due to inconsistent character set settings. Check the collation of the SQL Server database to ensure it supports UTF-8 or GBK. In the connection settings of SQLPro, you can also try specifying the character encoding, such as UTF-8.
If you have many query tabs open at the same time, it is recommended to close unused tabs. Also, avoid querying massive amounts of data at once; you can use TOP or WHERE clauses to limit the result set. If the problem persists, try restarting the software or updating the macOS system.
If you encounter interface abnormalities or configuration errors, you can reset the settings. After quitting the software, in “Finder” press Shift+Command+G, enter ~/Library/Preferences/, find the com.hankinsoft.sqlpromssql.plist file and delete it. After restarting the software, all settings will be restored to default values.
