Source Code and Configuration Files

View a wide range of development files with syntax highlighting, including Swift, Python, JavaScript, Java, Kotlin, C, C++, C#, Rust, Go, Ruby, PHP, Shell, SQL, CSS, YAML, XML, TOML, plist, and many more. Unfold also recognizes special filenames and hidden files such as Makefile, Dockerfile, CMakeLists.txt, .gitignore, and .env.

JSON and Structured Data

Browse JSON, JSONC, JSON5, JSONL, and Canvas files with a native viewer featuring syntax highlighting, line numbers, and collapsible objects and arrays. .tab and .tsv data are displayed as clear, easy-to-read tables.

MARKDOWN, MERMAID, AND JUPYTER

Display Markdown as beautifully typeset documents with headings, tables, code blocks, and a table of contents for quick navigation, or switch to source view. With hot reload enabled, the preview updates automatically whenever the source file changes. Mermaid files are rendered as scalable diagrams. You can also preview formatted Markdown, syntax-highlighted code, math formulas, images, and saved outputs in Jupyter Notebooks.

COMICS

Read CBZ and CBR comics directly in Quick Look. Browse pages in continuous scrolling mode and jump quickly with thumbnail navigation.

FOLDERS

Preview folders directly in Quick Look in standard, list, or grid layout. View image thumbnails and file information, expand subfolders, adjust scan depth, and optionally show hidden items.

ARCHIVES

Browse ZIP, RAR, 7Z, TAR, compressed TAR, and various package formats without extracting them first. Browse nested folders, expand directory contents, and view filenames and file sizes in a clear hierarchical view.

WEB ARCHIVES

Open MHT and MHTML web archives as full web pages directly in Quick Look. All content is processed locally, with remote content loading, external page navigation, and JavaScript in pages disabled.

LATEX AND BIBTEX

Display TeX, LaTeX, and LTX documents as typeset content with math formulas, and switch to a syntax-highlighted source view at any time. BibTeX files can be displayed as easy-to-read reference lists in APA, MLA, Chicago, or IEEE format.

EBOOKS

Open EPUB and FB2 ebooks, view covers and typeset body text, and use table of contents navigation, adjustable font size, and automatic, dark, light, and sepia themes. When you reopen an ebook, you can continue from your last reading position.

SUBTITLES AND TEXT

View SRT subtitles with timing information and style highlighting, and also support subtitle files such as VTT and ASS. You can also preview logs, NFO files, Fountain screenplays, plain text, files without extensions, and unrecognized text formats.

MAC APP BUNDLES

Use Quick Look on .app files to view the icon, name, version, bundle identifier, supported architectures, minimum macOS version, size, signer, and the status of App Sandbox and Hardened Runtime.

Getting Started

After installation, open Unfold.

Go to “System Settings” > “General” > “Login Items & Extensions” > “Quick Look”.

Enable the Unfold extensions you need to use.

Select a supported file or folder in Finder, then press the Space bar.
