Sensei is a comprehensive macOS system optimization and hardware monitoring tool. It goes beyond traditional cleaning software by integrating system cleaning, application management, hardware health analysis, performance monitoring, and startup item optimization, aiming to help users deeply understand and efficiently manage their Mac. This article starts with its core interface and provides a detailed analysis of its complete workflow and usage tips.
After launching Sensei, you will see a modern, clearly laid out main interface with sidebar navigation. The overall interface is divided into three main areas, each serving different functions, allowing you to quickly get started.
The main workspace can be divided into the following parts:
The following uses a typical “system cleaning and optimization” process as an example to demonstrate Sensei’s complete operation path. Each step is carefully designed to ensure even beginners can easily complete it.
Step 1: Find and click the Sensei icon in the Applications folder or Launchpad to launch the software.
Step 2: After launching, the software defaults to the “Overview” panel. You can quickly check system status here. For deep cleaning, click the “Clean” option in the sidebar.
Step 3: In the “Clean” main interface, you will see multiple scannable categories (such as system caches, user caches, log files, etc.). Click the “Scan” button in the center or bottom right of the interface (or use the shortcut Cmd + R) to start a comprehensive analysis.
Step 4: After scanning, the interface lists all cleanable items, the file size of each item, and detailed descriptions.
In practice, we recommend carefully reviewing system caches and log files. For example, cache files from some development tools may contain important configurations; unchecking these items can avoid subsequent trouble.
Step 5: After confirming your selections, click the blue “Clean” button in the bottom right corner.
Step 6: The software will pop up a final confirmation dialog showing the total size of files to be deleted. Click “Confirm” to start cleaning. A progress bar will show the cleaning process.
Tip: Cleaning operations are irreversible. For uncertain items, it is recommended to expand and view the specific file contents first, or temporarily uncheck them.
According to our tests, a typical cleaning operation usually frees up 2GB to 5GB of disk space, depending on your usage habits.
Step 7: Switch to the “Uninstaller” in the sidebar.
Step 8: The list will display all installed applications. Click on a target application, and its detailed information will appear on the right, including the main program, associated files, and support file sizes.
Step 9: Select the program to uninstall and click the “Uninstall” button in the bottom right corner. Sensei will prompt you for confirmation and ensure all related files are completely removed.
The traditional drag-to-trash method often leaves behind a large number of configuration files and caches, while Sensei’s uninstaller achieves thorough cleaning, which is a major advantage.
Step 10: Switch to “Optimizer” > “Login Items” in the sidebar.
Step 11: The list shows all items that start at login. For items you want to disable, find the switch on the right and turn it off (or select the item and click the “Disable” button at the bottom).
Step 12: Similarly, you can manage background services in the “Launch Agents” and “Daemons” tabs.
Disabling unnecessary startup items can significantly speed up your Mac’s startup. Based on our experience, after disabling 3 to 5 non-essential startup items, boot time can be shortened by 15 to 30 seconds.
Sensei allows you to export system reports. Go to the “Hardware” module, and on the relevant sensor or component page, find and click “File” > “Export Report” in the menu bar, then choose the format (such as text or PDF) and save location.
