iMac Cleaner for Mac is a comprehensive system optimization and cleaning tool designed to help users safely scan and clean the Mac system, free up disk space, and improve performance. Its core features include smart junk cleaning, duplicate file finding, application uninstallation, startup item management, file shredding, PDF compression, and more. This article will introduce its interface, complete operation workflow, advanced tips, and solutions to common problems in detail.
After launching iMac Cleaner, the main interface is usually divided into the following core areas:
The interface design is intuitive, and users can quickly switch to the corresponding work module by clicking the function icons in the left navigation bar.
The following uses the most commonly used “Clean Junk” and “Duplicate File Cleanup” functions as examples to explain the complete operation workflow from launch to export.
Step 1: Find and click the iMac Cleaner icon in the “Applications” folder or Launchpad to launch the software.
Step 2: After the software launches, the “Status” panel is displayed by default. Click the “Quick Scan” button in the center (or use the shortcut Command + R), and the software will begin a comprehensive scan of junk files, duplicates, and more in the system.
Step 3: After the scan is complete, the main workspace will display cleanable items by category (such as app caches, system logs, mail attachments, etc.) and their sizes. Each category has a checkbox in front of it.
Step 1: Click the “Clean Junk” icon in the left navigation bar.
Step 2: Under this panel, you can select specific junk types to scan, such as “App Junk,” “System Junk,” “iTunes Junk,” etc. Click the “Scan” button in the lower right corner.
Step 3: The scan results are presented in a list. You can:
Step 4: After confirming your selection, click the prominent “Clean” button in the lower right corner (shortcut Command + Delete).
Step 5: The software will pop up a confirmation dialog, once again reminding you of the size and number of files to be deleted. Click “Confirm” to start cleaning. After cleaning is complete, the total amount of disk space freed will be displayed.
Step 1: Click the “Duplicate File Cleanup” icon in the left navigation bar.
Step 2: In the central workspace, click the “+” button or “Add Folder” and select the directory to scan for duplicate files (such as “Downloads,” “Pictures,” or the entire user folder).
Step 3: Click the “Scan” button in the lower right corner. The software will use the MD5 checksum algorithm for accurate comparison.
Step 4: The scan results will be displayed grouped by file type, size, etc. For each group of duplicate files, the software usually automatically and intelligently selects the file recommended to keep (such as the most recent one), and the other duplicates will be checked. You can manually review and adjust the selection.
Step 5: After confirming that the duplicate files to be deleted are checked, click the “Delete” button in the lower right corner (shortcut Command + D).
Step 6: The software provides deletion options: “Move to Trash” (recoverable) or “Delete Permanently” (unrecoverable, similar to shredding). After choosing carefully, click “Confirm” to execute the operation.
After the cleaning operation is complete, you can continue to use other functions or exit the software directly. All cleaning operations take effect immediately, and no additional “export” step is required. To exit the software, click “iMac Cleaner” -> “Quit iMac Cleaner” in the Apple menu bar at the top left of the screen, or use the shortcut Command + Q.
Solution: iMac Cleaner can usually intelligently identify critical system files. However, for files marked as “System Caches” or “Logs,” cleaning is generally safe. If you are unsure, you can leave that category unchecked or clean only “User Caches.” Do not blindly select all “System” files for cleaning.
Solution: If you selected “Move to Trash” when deleting, you can immediately open the “Trash” to restore it. If you selected “Delete Permanently,” it will be difficult to recover. It is recommended to use the “Show in Finder” function to confirm important duplicate files one by one before deleting, or first choose the “Move to Trash” method and empty the Trash only after confirming everything is correct.
Solution: 1) Try closing other large applications before scanning. 2) In “Duplicate File Cleanup,” do not add too many or too large top-level directories at once (such as the entire hard drive); scan specific folders in batches. 3) Check whether the Mac’s disk space is severely insufficient, as this will affect scanning efficiency.
Solution: In the “Startup Item Management” list, find the item that has been disabled; the switch or checkbox to its left will be in the off state. Simply click it again to turn it on (enable), and the item will be restored to launch at login.
