TrashMe for Mac is a professional application uninstaller and system cleaning tool. It goes beyond the simple deletion function of macOS, capable of deep scanning and removing applications and all associated files (such as caches, preferences, log files, etc.), ensuring no residual uninstallation. It also integrates multiple practical tools to help users manage startup items, clean system caches, securely handle the Trash, and more, making it a powerful assistant for maintaining a clean and efficient Mac system.
TrashMe’s main interface is designed simply and intuitively, mainly divided into the following functional areas:
Step 1: Open TrashMe from the “Applications” folder or Launchpad.
Step 2: After launching, the software defaults to the “Uninstaller” tab. TrashMe will automatically start a quick scan of all installed applications on the system. You can also click the “Scan Now” button in the top toolbar (or use the shortcut Command + R) to manually rescan.
Step 1: In the application list in the main content area, locate the software you want to uninstall by scrolling or using the search box in the upper right corner (shortcut Command + F).
Step 2: Click to select the application. TrashMe will immediately display the “Introduction” information of the application in the lower pane.
Step 3: Click the “Related Files” tab next to “Introduction”. TrashMe will start a deep scan to find all support files, caches, preferences, logs, etc., scattered throughout the system for that application.
Tip: After the scan is complete, all found related files will be presented in a tree list. You can carefully review the list and uncheck any files you wish to keep (for example, save files for certain games).
Step 1: After confirming the list of files to delete, click the “Uninstall Application” button in the lower right corner of the window.
Step 2: In the confirmation dialog that pops up, check the items to be deleted again. After confirming, click “Uninstall”.
Step 3: TrashMe will begin the deletion operation. For some applications protected by the system or currently running, you may be asked to enter an administrator password. After the operation is complete, the application and all its checked related files will be completely removed from your Mac.
Click “Tools” in the sidebar to access a series of maintenance functions:
TrashMe’s main operation is “deletion” and does not involve traditional project export. However, its “Protection” feature allows you to export the list of protected applications as a backup:
Step: Go to the “Protection” tab, click the gear icon menu in the lower left corner, and select “Export List…” to save the current protection list as a text file.
| Issue | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Prompt “Item is in use” or requires password during uninstallation | 1. The application or related processes are still running. 2. System files to be deleted require administrator privileges. |
1. Ensure the target application is completely quit (including menu bar resident programs). 2. Enter the correct administrator password when prompted to continue. |
| Cannot find related files for some applications after scanning | 1. The application uses sandboxing, and files are stored in a standard way. 2. Some files may have been deleted by other cleaning tools. |
This is normal. Sandboxed applications (most from the App Store) have very few residual files. You can manually check the relevant folders under `~/Library/`. |
| Files remain after “Force Empty Trash” | Files may be locked by core system processes, or there are disk permission errors. | 1. Try using this function in “Safe Mode”. 2. Use “Disk Utility” to repair disk permissions (steps have changed after macOS 10.14). |
| Worried about accidentally deleting important user data (such as game saves) | Did not carefully check the “Related Files” list before uninstalling. | In the “Related Files” list, be sure to expand all directories and check carefully. For known save file paths (usually located in `~/Library/Application Support/` or the Documents folder), uncheck them. |
| Software cannot start or crashes | 1. Installation package is corrupted or download is incomplete. 2. Incompatible with system version. 3. Blocked by security software. |
1. Re-download the installation package and verify the MD5 value. 2. Check the software’s official website to confirm system requirements. 3. Check and temporarily disable Gatekeeper or third-party firewalls. |
| System slows down or behaves abnormally after uninstallation | Accidentally deleted critical system files or dependency libraries. | Immediately use Time Machine to restore the system, or reinstall the affected applications from the App Store. |
| Some application settings are lost after cleaning caches | Cache files contained application configuration information. | Before cleaning caches, it is recommended to carefully check the “Related Files” list, or first disable the “Clean Application Caches” option in Preferences. |

The Adobe Creative Cloud suite is notorious for its cumbersome installation and incomplete uninstallation. Many users find residual icons in Launchpad or a large number of cache files in the system after attempting to uninstall, affecting the next installation. TrashMe can perfectly solve this problem.
Step 1: Open TrashMe and ensure a full scan has been completed. In the “Uninstaller” list, find “Adobe Creative Cloud” or related Adobe applications, such as “Adobe Photoshop”.
Step 2: Select “Adobe Creative Cloud” and click the “Related Files” tab. You will see that TrashMe has listed over 100 associated files, including system-level caches and preferences located in `~/Library/Application Support`, `~/Library/Caches`, and `/Library/`.
