Many friends may be a bit confused when facing the installation wizard after downloading the installation package. Don’t worry, the following guide will walk you through the process step by step.
After getting the downloaded .dmg file, double-click it to mount the image. In the pop-up window, find the “VMware Fusion.app” icon and drag it to the “Applications” folder to start installation. The first launch will prompt “from an unidentified developer”; go to “System Preferences – Security & Privacy” to allow it to run.
After the software starts, click “Create a New Virtual Machine”. Then, select the “Install from disc or image” option. Click the “Choose a disc or disc image” button and find the Windows 10 ISO file you downloaded in advance. Finally, click “Continue”. VMware will automatically detect the operating system type without manual adjustment.
The system will prompt you to enter the Windows product key; you can skip it for now. In the “Integration” option, it is recommended to choose “More Seamless” to allow Windows applications and Mac applications to mix. When allocating memory, based on your Mac’s physical memory size, it is recommended to allocate 4GB or 8GB to the virtual machine. After clicking “Finish”, the virtual machine will automatically start and enter the Windows installation interface.
During use, you may encounter some minor issues. Here are 8 high-frequency questions to help you quickly troubleshoot.
A: First, check whether VMware kernel extensions are allowed in “System Preferences – Security & Privacy – General” on your Mac. If not, you need to manually click “Allow”. Second, confirm that your Mac hardware meets the minimum requirements, at least 4GB of memory.
A: Try closing unnecessary background applications on your Mac. In Fusion’s “Settings – Processors & Memory”, you can appropriately increase the number of CPU cores and memory allocated to the virtual machine. Also, ensure that VMware Tools is installed in the virtual machine, as it can greatly improve performance.
A: The simplest way is to enable the “Drag and Drop” function. In Fusion’s “Settings – Sharing”, check “Enable Drag and Drop” and “Enable Copy and Paste”. You can also add specific Mac folders as network drives for Windows.
A: VMware Tools is a set of drivers and tools that significantly improve graphics performance, mouse smoothness, and support clipboard sharing, file drag and drop, etc. After installation, you will find the Windows interface becomes exceptionally smooth, and the resolution can automatically adapt.
A: Using the “Snapshot” function is the best solution. While the virtual machine is running, click “Virtual Machine – Snapshot – Take Snapshot” in the top menu. When the system has problems, you can restore to the state when the snapshot was taken with one click, which is very convenient.
A: First, ensure that the USB device is connected to the Mac. Then, in Fusion’s “Virtual Machine – USB & Bluetooth”, select to connect the device. If it still cannot boot, you need to set the boot mode to “UEFI” in the virtual machine’s “Settings – Startup Disk”.
A: Yes. In Fusion’s “Settings – USB & Bluetooth”, ensure that the camera and microphone devices are connected to the virtual machine. This way, using WeChat video calls or voice conferences in Windows is effortless.
A: After downloading the activated version we provide, the software usually activates automatically. If prompted to enter a key, be sure to use a genuine key purchased or obtained. Note that publicly available keys on the internet are usually banned, resulting in activation failure.
Mastering shortcut keys can greatly improve efficiency. The following table covers common shortcut key combinations in the Mac system and in VMware Fusion virtual machines.
